Battery Testing
Proper maintenance will prolong the life of a battery
and will aid in ensuring that it is capable of satisfying
its design requirements. A good battery maintenance program
will serve as a valuable aid in maximizing battery life,
preventing avoidable failures, and reducing premature replacement.
Each battery inspection is performed by trained technicians
utilizing the latest testing equipment. The result is a
detailed report of findings including analysis and recommendations
for any scheduled or corrective measures. The report is
given to the owner for record copy. The following is done
for VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) and Flood Cell batteries.
Quarterly Inspection: At least once
per quarter, a general inspection is done performed which
includes the following:
- 100% cell voltage
- 100% cell resistance
- General appearance and cleanliness of the battery,
rack and/or cabinet, and area
- Electrolyte levels (Flooded cell only)
- Cracks in cells or leakage
- Any evidence of corrosion at terminals, connectors,
racks, or cabinets
- Ambient temperature and ventilation
- 10% connector re-torque per manufacturer's specification
- 10% specific gravity and temperature (Flooded cell
only)
Annual Inspection: At least once per
year, in addition to the quarterly inspection, the following
is performed:
- 100% Specific gravity and temperature (Flooded cell
only)
- 100% connector re-torque per manufacturer's specification
- Battery spill containment re-certification (Flooded
cell only)
